Verda Mae Lawhorne Coffman, 97 of Bridgeport, Alabama went to be with the Lord, Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Highlands Medical Center in Scottsboro, AL. Verda was the daughter of the late Ingram and Elizabeth Dawson Lawhorne born January 28, 1913 in the Mt. Carmel Community of Bridgeport, Alabama. She is the last of ten children to pass away.
She worked as a looper at Brownings Hosiery Mills. Above all else, she loved the Lord and held charter membership in the Community Baptist Church in Bridgeport. It is not possible to comprehend the lives she has touched for the Lord.
Preceding her in death were her husband Edward Blackwell Coffman, two sons-in-law, Paul Smith and Oran Barnes, and a great-grandson Wondall "Bo" Ake.
She is survived by her son, James "Bud" Coffman and wife Donna of Scottsboro, AL; daughters: Jean Barnes of Summerhouse Mountain, Frances "Fran" Smith of Bridgeport, Sue Kelly and husband Wade of Pikeville, TN, Ellen Lambert and husband Alfred of Bridgeport, AL; also there are four gandsons; nine granddaughters; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
Visitation will be Saturday 1-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The funeral service will be 2 PM CDT Sunday, June 27, at the funeral home chapel officiated by Bro. Dean Johnson. Interment will be at the Rocky Springs Cemetery. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com
