William Chestine "Bill" Prater, 80 life-long resident of Stevenson, AL died July 17, 2009 at his home. He had operated an excavation business with Dr. J. B. Havron for many years before going into private business with his sons.
Mr Prater was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Josie Austin Prater; wife Vera Mae McDaniel Prater; son Roger Dale Prater; sister Velma McIntire.
He is survived by his son and daughters-in-law: Otis and Betty Prater of Stevenson, Pat Prater of Scottsboro, AL; sister Aline Vaughn of Stevenson; grandchildren: Carol (Steve) Smith and Dean Prater both of Skyline, AL; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Cassidy and Levi Smith of Skyline, Devin Prater of Hollywood, AL; several nieces, nephews and good friend Rev. Donald Jacobs.
Visitation will be Saturday, 5-9 PM CDT and Sunday 11 AM-9 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral will be Monday, July 20, at 11 AM CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Donald Jacobs. Interment will be at Stevenson City Cemetery.
