Mr. William H. "Bill" Bohannon Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. William H. (Bill) Bohannon Jr., age 98, of Scottsboro passed away on November 21, 2022 at his residence. He was born and raised in Chicken Foot, Jackson County on April 1, 1924 to Martha and William Bohannon Sr.
Mr. Bohannon was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He served from 1945 to 1946, where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal Japan and Japan Victory Ribbon. He married Erlene Eliza Lusk on December 24, 1948 in Rising Fawn, GA. He worked in the steel mills in Harvey, IL for several years, then returned home to Scottsboro in 1968 and worked at Revere Copper and Brass where he retired in 1982. He continued cattle farming until the age of 92. His family attributes his longevity to his hard work and long walks daily to feed and tend his livestock. He enjoyed farming, gardening, reminiscing about the past & watching Braves baseball. Mr. Bohannon is known for his sharp memory, thoughtfulness, love for his family and being an extremely hard worker. He attended Faith Covenant Church of God.
He is survived by his son, Hank Bohannon (Connie); daughter, Sonia Brock (Dennis); four grandchildren, Carissa Brock, Valerie Widgeon (Patrick), Will Bohannon, and Hayley Holbrook (Joe); five great grandchildren, Kody Gross, Bentley Holbrook, Taylor Holbrook, A.J. Widgeon, & Greyson Widgeon; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents William & Martha Bohannon, his wife Erlene Lusk Bohannon, his sisters Bertha Edmonds, Sue Perkins, Louise Sampson, Hazel Sharp, and Rita Smith and brothers Howard, Ray and Stanley Bohannon.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday November 23, 2022 at Rudder Funeral Home Scottsboro, with the Rev. Brett Hogland and Rev. Randy Wooden officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery.
