Harold Boyd Hughes, Sr., 91 of Bridgeport, AL, died March 29, 2014 at Highlands Medical Center in Scottsboro, AL. Harold was the son of the late Leon Herbert and Carrie Shaw Hughes born December 26, 1922 in Bridgeport, AL. He taught at Bridgeport High School for 27 years. Mr. Hughes served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and Air Force as a fighter pilot instructor. He had a Bachelor Degree from University of Alabama and Masters Degree of Education from University of Chattanooga. He was a lifelong member of Rocky Springs Church of Christ, founding member of Bridgeport Lions Club, founding member of Bridgeport Historical Association, member of Sons of Confederate Veterans and Alabama Education Association.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jo Rogers Hughes; siblings: Maurine Hughes, Virginia H. Smart, Leon H. Hughes, Jr., and William J. Hughes, Sr.
Survivors include his children: Harold B. Hughes, Jr., Cynthia Jean Hughes Nock, Kimberly Ann Hughes Mercer; grandchildren; nephews and niece; Jim Hughes of Bridgeport, AL, Nancy H. Beene of Soddy Daisy, Brian Murray Hughes of Bridgeport,, John Hughes of LA, Buddy Hughes and Chris Hughes both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Visitation will be Monday 4-8 PM CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport, AL. The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 1, at 4 PM CDT at the funeral home chapel officiated by Henry Camp. Military Honors provided by Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard at Rocky Springs Cemetery in Bridgeport. www.rudderfuneralhomes.com
