Kathryn Jane Caperton Tipton's Obituary
Kathryn Jane Caperton Tipton – age 83, went to be with her Lord on January 1, 2017. Formerly of Stevenson, Alabama, Mrs. Tipton made her home in Birmingham in recent years. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond G. Tipton; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Glover Caperton; a brother, James H. Caperton; and a niece Betsy Caperton Jeffery.
She is survived by two daughters, Ellen Anne Tipton of Birmingham, Alabama and Katherine (Katye) Tipton of Houston, Texas; her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard C. Morris of Marietta, Georgia; a niece, Ann Morris of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Caperton and Mrs. Ruby McNeese; and her nurse and caregiver, Anita Naudi Word, ….and her faithful companion, LuLu.
Mrs. Tipton graduated from Carraway Methodist School of Nursing and the University of Alabama. She worked for TVA-Widows Creek and Wilson Dam before her retirement to rear her family. She was a life-long member of the Stevenson Cumberland Presbyterian Church, serving as the first woman elder of that congregation and in other capacities including clerk of the session and delegate to Presbytery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson, founded by Mrs. Tiptons late grandfather Jack F. Rudder. Funeral services will be held at the Stevenson Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, January 4, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation at the church at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Stevenson City Cemetery.
